Representations in Entre les eaux of V.-Y. Mudimbe : intellectual neutrality or prejudice ?
Abstract
Généralement, les oeuvres littéraires sont produites pour véhiculer un certain nombre d’images révélatrices des opinions, des attitudes mentales, des idéologies d’une époque, d’une couche sociale donnée, etc. Sous l’angle de la réception de ces oeuvres, il sied de signaler la possibilité de voir ces représentations dans leur neutralité intellectuelle ou plutôt elles sont affectives, nourrissant, pour ainsi dire, des préjugés sur l’autre culture. C’est le cas, dans Entre les eaux de V.-Y. Mudimbe, concernant l’impasse du catholicisme pour son inculturation dans la société congolaise durant la période coloniale et postcoloniale.

Generally, the literary works are produced to convey a certain number of revealing images of the opinions, the mental attitudes, the ideologies of a time, of a given social stratum, etc. From the point of view of the reception of these works, it is necessary to point out the possibility of seeing these representations in their intellectual neutrality or rather they are affective, feeding, so to speak, prejudices on the other culture. It is the case, in Between the waters of V.-Y. Mudimbe, concerning the impasse of Catholicism for its inculturation in the Congolese society during the colonial and postcolonial period.
